Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala said in Parliament today (10) that approval has been received to urgently recruit 2,500 police officers.
The Minister said that the gazette notification in this regard will be issued next month and that recruitment will continue in the future.
He said that a special program has been introduced to minimize the burden on the police and that discussions are underway with the Attorney General regarding the 100 cases pending in court regarding the police.
He said this in response to a question raised by Samaga Jana Balawegaya's Anuradhapura District Councilor Rohana Bandara.
